NBA Star Obi Toppin Proposes in Paris Ahead of Pacers-Spurs Games
PARIS — Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin, a former University of Dayton basketball standout, proposed to his girlfriend, Magdalena Bellinger, in Paris on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2025. The couple shared the news on social media, with Bellinger posting, “Forever with you,” alongside photos of the romantic moment.
The engagement comes as Toppin is in Paris with the Pacers for two NBA games against the San Antonio Spurs. The first game is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. EST, followed by a second matchup on Saturday, Jan. 25, at noon EST.
The Indiana Pacers celebrated the couple’s engagement on their official social media account, writing, “The perfect Paris proposal 💍😍 congratulations to Obi Toppin and his fiancée Mag on their engagement!”
Toppin, 26, is currently in his second season with the Pacers, averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 54.0% from the field and 34.6% from three-point range. He was the eighth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks and was traded to Indiana in 2023. Last season, he played a key role in helping the Pacers reach the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in a decade.
Several NBA stars, including Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook, congratulated Toppin on his engagement. Westbrook commented, “Congratulations Brodie!!” on Toppin’s social media post. Other notable players, such as Caitlin Clark, Myles Turner, and Tyrese Haliburton, also liked the announcement.
Toppin’s career averages include 8.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game over 323 NBA appearances. Earlier this year, he signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension with the Pacers, solidifying his role as a key contributor off the bench.
As for Westbrook, the future Hall of Famer is in his first season with the Nuggets, averaging 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
