Jagmeet Singh Parliament Hill Protest

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh confronted a protester on Tuesday after being called a “corrupted bastard” during a demonstration on Parliament Hill. The incident was captured on video, which has rapidly gained attention online, accumulating hundreds of thousands of views shortly after it was posted.

The video, uploaded to YouTube, shows Singh being tailed by protesters while walking on Parliament Hill. After hearing the insult, Singh turned towards the group and challenged them, demanding, “You’re a coward if you’re not going to say it to my face.” Despite the clear audio capturing the insult, the individuals filming Singh denied making the remarks.

The incident occurred as Members of Parliament returned to Ottawa for the fall session. An official statement from Singh’s office reported by CTV News noted that the protesters had been “intimidating, filming, and harassing staff, pedestrians, journalists, and visitors.” The statement emphasized that Singh does not support bullying or violence.

Several Members of Parliament expressed concern about the growing risks faced by politicians. NDP MP Charlie Angus criticized the apparent lack of intervention by security personnel during the confrontation, highlighting the potential dangers politicians encounter. “We’re dealing right now with an increasingly dangerous and toxic mix for politicians of all stripes,” said Angus, stressing the urgency of enhancing security measures.

This confrontation is not an isolated incident for Singh. In the past, he faced similar harassment, including an instance outside a grocery store in Newfoundland where he challenged a heckler to a conversation instead of indulging in insults.
