Nebraska’s Basketball Team Advances with Strong Performance, Faces Boise State Next

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The Nebraska men’s basketball team has secured a spot in the semifinals of the College Basketball Crown following a dominant 8-5 win over the Hoyas on Wednesday night. The team also finalized a $50,000 NIL package on the same day, making it a memorable night for the Huskers.
Led by Brice Williams, who scored a game-high 28 points, Nebraska showcased their depth despite two of their three leading scorers being sidelined due to illness. Juway Gary contributed a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Andrew Morgan added 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
The victory marked the first time since 2004 that Nebraska has accrued multiple postseason wins, extending their trip in Las Vegas to face the Boise State Broncos in the semifinal round. Boise State, which had expressed frustration over their exclusion from the NCAA Tournament despite strong performances, awaits the matchup set for Saturday afternoon.
Boise State head coach Leon Rice brings a wealth of experience into the game. In his 15th season at BSU, he has led the Broncos to five NCAA Tournament appearances, and his squad finished the season with a 26-10 record, including a solid 14-6 in the Mountain West Conference.
The teams have met for the first time in history, and Boise State is expected to be at full strength, presenting a formidable challenge for the Huskers. Rice’s squad features standout players like All-Mountain West first-team selection Tyson Degenhart, who leads the Broncos with an average of 18.7 points per game, and forward Andrew Morgan, who adds another layer of skill with his 12.6 PPG.
Boise State’s recent quarterfinal victory over Butler, where Javan Buchanan scored 27 points, underlines their offensive capabilities. Leading the backcourt is Alvaro Cardenas, contributing 11.7 PPG alongside his playmaking skills with over six assists per game. While the Broncos rank low in three-point shooting at 31.6%, their rebounding strength has been their hallmark, leading the Mountain West in fewest opponent rebounds per game.
“It’s going to be a tough game,” Nebraska’s coach said, emphasizing the challenge presented by Boise State’s height and defense. The Huskers have been criticized for their struggles in the paint. The matchup will not only test Nebraska’s offensive strategies but also their ability to counter a tall and deep bench from Boise State against which they don’t fare well on the rebounding front.
Nebraska remains hopeful for a strong offensive showing led by Williams, while the critical question remains about Gary’s ability to impact the game under the pressure Boise State will bring.
As the anticipation builds for the showdown, fans are eager to see if Nebraska can overcome the odds against a well-rounded Boise State team. The game is set to kick off Saturday afternoon, with Nebraska aiming to continue their postseason journey.
