LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule announced Saturday that sophomore wide receiver Hardley Gilmore IV has been dismissed from the team following an internal review. Rhule stated, “We dismissed Hardley Gilmore (IV) from the team, so we wish him the best as he moves forward.”

The announcement came after the conclusion of a spring practice session, with Rhule clarifying that the dismissal was not related to any criminal activities. “Nothing outside the program, nothing criminal or anything like that, just won’t be with us anymore,” he said.

Gilmore IV, a transfer from the University of Kentucky, had joined the Nebraska Cornhuskers earlier this year. As a freshman in 2024, he played in seven games for the Wildcats, accumulating six receptions for 153 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown. Despite missing the start of the season due to injury, he had shown promise during his time at Kentucky.

The 19-year-old from Belle Glade, Florida, was highly regarded as a four-star recruit in the 2024 class, and he had reclassified to enroll a year early. He transferred to Nebraska with hopes of reuniting with former Wildcats teammates Dane Key and position coach Daikiel Shorts Jr., both of whom also made the transition to Lincoln.

Following Gilmore’s dismissal, Nebraska’s receiving corps still boasts significant depth and talent, featuring Key and returning players like Jacory Barney Jr. Quarterback Dylan Raiola has praised the unit’s strength, indicating that the team is not in immediate need of additional recruits from the transfer portal.

Rhule’s decision is reminiscent of other disciplinary actions taken in college athletics, emphasizing the importance of maintaining team culture. As of now, the Huskers will continue with their training regimen, anticipating a competitive 2025 season.
