Dana Holgorsen Nebraska Huskers Offensive Consultant

In a significant move to bolster their offense, the Nebraska Huskers have reportedly hired Dana Holgorsen as an offensive consultant. This development was announced on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, according to ESPN. Holgorsen, known for his extensive experience and success in the Air Raid offense, will join the Huskers under the leadership of Head Coach Matt Rhule.

Holgorsen brings a wealth of coaching experience, having served as a head coach for 13 combined seasons with a 92-69 overall record. He spent eight years at West Virginia, where he compiled a 61-41 record, and then moved to the University of Houston, where he finished with a 31-28 record over five seasons. His tenure at Houston included a transition to the Big 12 Conference in 2023.

Holgorsen’s coaching career is deeply rooted in the Air Raid offense, which he learned under the tutelage of Mike Leach and Hal Mumme. He began his coaching journey at Iowa Wesleyan and later worked at various institutions, including Texas Tech, where he was part of a highly successful offense that led the country in several statistical categories. At Houston, under Coach Kevin Sumlin, Holgorsen’s offense achieved remarkable success, ranking first in total offense and passing yards in 2009.

The hiring of Holgorsen is seen as a strategic move by Coach Rhule to enhance the Huskers’ offense. Despite Rhule’s stated preferences for a different offensive style, Holgorsen’s expertise and track record suggest he could bring significant improvements to Nebraska‘s offensive performance.

As an offensive consultant, Holgorsen’s role may evolve over time, but his immediate impact will be crucial in shaping the Huskers’ offense for the 2024 season.
