Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem Gear Up for Javelin Throw Final in Paris
It’s an exciting time in Paris as two of the top javelin throwers from South Asia, Neeraj Chopra from India and Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan, have both qualified for the finals of the men’s javelin throw at the Olympics.
In the qualification round, Arshad Nadeem, who won a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships, impressively threw 86.59 meters on his first attempt, easily surpassing the qualification mark of 84 meters. But Neeraj stole the spotlight with a stunning throw of 89.34 meters, making it the biggest throw of the day and his second-longest throw ever.
Arshad expressed his joy about both of them representing South Asia on a global stage, saying, “I hope that we continue to perform for our respective countries and make the names of our countries shine bright globally.”
The final is set to take place on August 8 at the famous Stade de France. Neeraj, the reigning Olympic champion from the Tokyo 2020 Games, is feeling optimistic and ready to defend his title.
Reflecting on his qualification, Neeraj remarked that while qualifying is tough, the real challenge lies in the final where athletes get six attempts to give their best. He laughed off any pre-final nerves and instead focused on getting his throw done early so he could relax before the big day.
Both athletes have mutual respect for one another, having met several times during competitions and even casually chatting at the Olympic Village. Their camaraderie adds a special touch to an already electrifying competition.
As they prepare for the final, the pressure is on, and Neeraj knows that anyone who qualifying is in top form, promising an exciting showdown ahead.
