Neeraj Chopra Competes at Lausanne Diamond League 2024
Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is set to return to action at the 2024 Diamond League event in Lausanne, Switzerland. The competition is scheduled to commence tonight at 11:30 PM IST. Neeraj, who recently earned a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, strives to exceed the 90-metre mark during this prestigious event.
Currently ranked fourth in the Diamond League standings with seven points, Neeraj aims to enhance his position by outperforming the leading competitors. As of now, Jakub Vadlejch from Czechia leads the table with 14 points, followed by Anderson Peters from Grenada with 13 points, and Julian Weber from Germany with 8 points.
A slight advantage for Neeraj is the absence of the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist, Arshad Nadeem, who is not competing in Lausanne. However, Neeraj faces the challenge of managing a persistent groin injury that has been affecting his performance.
The lineup for the javelin throw at the Lausanne Diamond League includes several notable athletes: Anderson Peters from Grenada, Andrian Mardare from Moldova, Artur Felfner from Ukraine, Edis Matusevicius from Lithuania, Jakub Vadlejch from Czech Republic, Julian Weber from Germany, Julius Yego from Kenya, Lassi Etelatalo from Finland, Neeraj Chopra from India, and Roderick Genki Dean from Japan.
The event will be broadcast live on Sports 18 HD/SD and can be streamed via the Jio Cinema application and website. This Diamond League event is a crucial opportunity for Neeraj to secure a spot in the finals, which will take place in Brussels in September.
Neeraj’s previous performances in the Diamond League have been impressive, with two consecutive victories at the 2022 and 2023 Lausanne events. His best throw to date is 89.94 metres, achieved in 2022. With the competition intensifying and top throwers present, it will be interesting to see how Neeraj performs tonight.
