Nepal’s Cricket Team Eyes Glory Against Scotland in League 2

London, England – The Nepali national cricket team arrived in Dundee, Scotland, aiming to improve their standings in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. They set to play two matches against both Scotland and the Netherlands starting Tuesday.
This marks Nepal’s fourth series in League 2 and their third visit to Scotland. The team hopes to boost its performance in the ongoing campaign, reflecting on past encounters against Scotland that showcase both struggle and triumph.
One memorable match occurred on July 29, 2015, at Cambusdoon New Ground in Ayr. Despite a rough start, Nepal came close to victory against Scotland. Chasing 236 runs, Nepal’s Anil Mandal scored a century but fell to a run-out on the first ball of the last over, leading to a narrow three-run loss.
During that match, skipper Paras Khadka and Mandal nearly turned the game around, with Khadka scoring 70 runs off 55 balls. Mandal’s century became a significant milestone, inspiring future players.
Fast forward to a historic win, Nepal’s bowlers took control of the game against Scotland, exemplifying their skills. They bowled Scotland out for just 144 runs, with Sompal Kami and Mohammad Adil Alam each claiming three wickets. Nepal chased down the target in just 25.1 overs, showcasing teamwork led by Aasif Sheikh, who scored 71 runs.
Another notable moment came in 2022 when skipper Rohit Kumar Paudel, needing to secure a win to retain One Day International (ODI) status, delivered an outstanding performance. After Nepal faced adversity at 138 for 8, Paudel scored an unbeaten 95 runs to guide the team to victory, marking it as one of the best innings of his career.
More recently, Nepal dominated Scotland in a match at Grand Prairie Stadium, bowling them out for 154 runs. Aarif Sheikh’s unbeaten 51 runs helped secure a solid victory, revitalizing Nepal’s campaign in League 2.
With these performances in mind, the Nepali team enters the new matches against Scotland and the Netherlands with a blend of experience and determination.
