Nepal and Oman Qualify for 2026 T20 World Cup in Historic Matches

NEW DELHI, India — Nepal and Oman have officially secured their spots in the 2026 T20 World Cup after impressive performances in the Asia-East Asia Pacific Qualifier. Their qualification was confirmed following the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) recent victory over Samoa, which secured UAE’s position in the Super Six standings.
The matches leading to this milestone highlighted Nepal and Oman’s cricketing prowess, as they dominated the points table, separated only by net run rate. On October 14, the UAE defeated Samoa convincingly by 77 runs, solidifying the top two positions for Nepal and Oman.
This marks a significant achievement for both teams — it is the third World Cup qualification for Nepal, following their appearances in 2014 and 2024. Similarly, Oman has now qualified for the T20 World Cup three times, having previously played in 2016 and 2024.
Oman showcased their skill by finishing at the top of Group A. In their Super Six clash against Qatar, Oman defended a total of 172 runs with ease. Nepal, on the other hand, prevailed in two nail-biting matches, including a thrilling finish against UAE and a close win over Qatar. Sandeep Lamichhane’s performance, including a key wicket, turned the tide for Nepal against Qatar.
The 2026 T20 World Cup, featuring 20 teams, is set to take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 6 to March 7, further elevating the anticipation for this cricketing event.
As the tournament progresses, a third team will also qualify from this qualifier, escalating the competition among the remaining teams, including UAE, Qatar, and Samoa. The cricketing community awaits further developments as matches continue in Muscat.
