D'angelo Russell Brooklyn Nets Game In Action

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell has been cleared to return from an ankle injury and is set to play Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors. Russell, who had been sidelined for the last two games, had previously suffered a right ankle sprain during a matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers in February.

After extensive treatment and rehabilitation, Russell is now off the injury report, signaling a critical boost for the Nets as they head into the game. On the season, he has averaged 13.8 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game, making him a vital part of Brooklyn’s offense.

“I feel good and ready to help my team get a win,” Russell said Tuesday. “It’s tough being out, but I’m excited to be back on the court.”

However, the Nets will also be without Day’Ron Sharpe, who is sitting out Wednesday’s game due to a right knee sprain. Additionally, Cam Johnson will not play as he is resting.

Russell’s return is particularly significant considering the challenges the Nets have faced without him. In the two games he missed, Brooklyn struggled, managing just one victory in their last five contests. The team currently holds the twelfth seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 23-47, trailing the fourth-seeded Pacers (40-29).

In their previous matchup on March 22, the Nets narrowly lost to the Pacers, 105-99. Russell, alongside teammate Ziaire Williams, had combined for 44 points in that game, indicating their offensive potency when both are healthy.

Head coach Jordi Fernandez expressed optimism about Russell’s impact: “D’Angelo is a key player for us and his ability to create plays and score is crucial, especially with injuries to other key players.”

The Nets will look to even the season series against the Pacers, who currently lead 2-1. With Russell back in the lineup, the Nets will hope to capitalize on his experience and playmaking ability.

Thursday’s game against Indiana is also important for the Nets as they aim to gain some momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.

“We need to take it one game at a time, but it’s important to have our leaders back on the floor,” Fernandez added. “Every game counts right now.”
