Nets Hayes Debut Basketball

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — French guard Killian Hayes made his debut with the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, contributing five points, three assists, and a block in just 21 minutes off the bench against the Sacramento Kings.

Hayes, a former lottery pick, was signed to a 10-day contract after spending the earlier part of the season with the Nets’ G League affiliate in Long Island. His performance comes at a critical time for the team as they look to strengthen their roster amid ongoing trade rumors.

“I felt very grateful,” Hayes said about his first game, expressing appreciation for the opportunity. “I felt like a lot of work got put into this, and I’m just very grateful for this chance.” The 23-year-old guard noted that he is focusing on making the most of his time in the NBA. “My goal is to stay in the NBA, make a mark for myself,” he said.

Despite his recent success, Hayes is conscious that his time with the team may be limited. The final game of his 10-day deal is scheduled for March 1 against the Detroit Pistons, the team that waived him last year after four seasons in Detroit.

As the Nets navigate through trade speculations involving star player Giannis Antetokounmpo, Hayes remains focused on team dynamics. “Just helping my teammates, being a great teammate, being a great locker room guy, and just do what I have to do,” he added.

Sources cite the Nets’ need to create cap space and acquire additional talent as part of their strategy. Comments on social media suggest varying opinions on the potential trades for Antetokounmpo, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
