Nets’ Williams Set to Play Against Celtics Despite Injuries

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Brooklyn Nets forward Ziaire Williams is cleared to play in Tuesday’s game against the Boston Celtics after recovering from left Achilles soreness. Williams, 23, will return to the court after missing the previous game against the Atlanta Hawks, contributing to a critical matchup as the Nets continue to fight for postseason contention.
In his last five starts, Williams has demonstrated his value to the team, averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 31.6 minutes per game. His performance has been crucial to the Nets, who are struggling to keep their playoff hopes alive in the Eastern Conference.
“Having Ziaire back gives us a lot of energy and versatility,” said Nets coach Jacque Vaughn. “He’s been working hard to get back, and we need every healthy body available as we approach the final stretch of the season.”
Williams was not the only injury concern for the Nets heading into Tuesday. Forwards Noah Clowney and D'Angelo Russell are also expected to make returns. Clowney missed the last three games due to a right ankle sprain, while Russell sat out Sunday’s contest to manage his right ankle.
“It’s great to see the team getting healthier,” Vaughn continued. “These players are key to our success, especially as we aim to secure a play-in spot.”
Williams has had an up-and-down season, participating in just 53 of 68 games so far, but he maintains average numbers of 10.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 41.1% from the field. Clowney, a second-year player, has averaged 9.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, showcasing development since being drafted with the 21st overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The Nets are currently sitting below the play-in line in the Eastern Conference and have faced several injury problems. Despite the challenges, ongoing efforts are being made to build a competitive team.
The Celtics, having a sterling season, entered this game as heavy favorites based on their current form. The NBA regular season is nearing its end, and the pressure to perform is mounting as teams vie for playoff positions.
“Every game is crucial for us now,” said Russell. “We have to approach this like a playoff game. I’m excited to be back and help the team in any way I can.”
