New England Patriots Monitor Rookie QB Drake Maye’s Knee Injury
The New England Patriots have reported a series of injuries among their players, with rookie quarterback Drake Maye being the most notable name on their injury report released Wednesday. Despite suffering from a knee injury, Maye was listed as a full participant in practice, indicating that he is expected to play in the upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Maye, who is 22 years old, recently assumed the starting quarterback role from veteran Jacoby Brissett. In his first career start, Maye participated in all 66 offensive snaps during the Patriots’ 41-21 defeat against the Houston Texans. He completed 20 out of 33 passes, amassing 243 yards, alongside three touchdowns and two interceptions. In addition, he was sacked four times, notably during a third-quarter strip sack that temporarily left him with shoulder pain.
Phil Perry of NBC Sports reported that the Patriots are not concerned about the knee injury, with expectations that Maye will play in the game scheduled for Sunday, October 20, at Wembley Stadium. The Boston Globe‘s Ben Volin mentioned earlier that Maye underwent an MRI following a practice session, yet there seems to be no severe concern depicted in the updates provided by the team.
Other players were also included in the injury report released on Thursday. Those who did not participate in practice include tackle Vederian Lowe (ankle) and running back Rhamondre Stevenson (foot). Several players, such as safety Kyle Dugger, linebacker Curtis Jacobs, and cornerback Jonathan Jones, had limited participation due to varying injuries.
The Patriots, who currently hold a 1-5 record, will face the Jaguars, also with a 1-5 record, at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday. The team’s performance is anticipated with cautious optimism amidst their ongoing injury setbacks.
