New Hartford Police Search for Missing Teen Amid Winter Weather Advisory
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — Authorities are searching for a 14-year-old boy who went missing on Jan. 8, as a winter weather advisory blankets the region with lake effect snow. Nazear Elliott, last seen near Donovan Middle School, is the subject of an active family court warrant.
Elliott reportedly fled the House of the Good Shepherd by breaking a bathroom window. He is described as a Black male, 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing approximately 122 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Police urge anyone with information to call 315-724-7111, assuring confidentiality for callers.
The search comes amid challenging weather conditions. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. EST Thursday for Madison, Onondaga, Southern Cayuga, and Southern Oneida Counties. Additional snow accumulations of up to 3 inches are expected, creating slippery road conditions that could impact commutes.
“During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away,” officials warned. “Visibilities can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.”
Residents are advised to slow down and use caution while traveling. Road conditions can be checked by calling 511. The New Hartford Police Department continues to investigate Elliott’s disappearance and asks the public to remain vigilant.
