New Orleans Pelicans Injury Report 2024

The New Orleans Pelicans are gearing up for their 2024-25 NBA season opener against the Chicago Bulls, but the team is already dealing with significant injury concerns. As of the latest reports, several key players are listed as questionable or ruled out for the game.

Trey Murphy III has been ruled out due to a hamstring strain he suffered during training camp, which has kept him out of the entire preseason. Despite his absence, Murphy recently signed a four-year contract extension worth $112 million.

Dejounte Murray and Zion Williamson are both listed as questionable. Murray missed practice earlier in the week for personal reasons, while Williamson missed practice due to a non-COVID-19 illness. Both players’ availability will be determined at game time.

José Alvarado, the Pelicans’ backup point guard, is also questionable after suffering a right knee contusion. In a further complication, Alvarado was involved in a car accident just hours before the season opener but managed to walk away without major injuries.

The Chicago Bulls, on the other hand, are fully healthy for their season opener, with Lonzo Ball set to make his return to regular season play for the first time since January 14, 2022.

The Pelicans’ injury issues could significantly impact their lineup and strategy, particularly in the backcourt. Coach Willie Green may need to rely on veteran CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram to handle ball-handling duties if Murray and Alvarado are unable to play.
