New York Jets Blow Lead in Final Minutes, Fall to New England Patriots 25-22
The New York Jets suffered a heartbreaking loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, October 27, at Gillette Stadium, with the final score being 25-22. This defeat extended the Jets’ losing streak to five games, while the Patriots broke their six-game losing streak.
The game was marked by several critical moments, particularly in the final minutes. The Jets had a five-point lead with 2:53 remaining but failed to stop the Patriots’ last drive. New England started at their own 30-yard-line and converted two crucial third-down plays, one by quarterback Jacoby Brissett on a run and another on a 34-yard pass to Kayshon Boutee, setting up first-and-goal. On fourth-and-goal, Brissett handed the ball to Rhamondre Stevenson for a 1-yard touchdown run with just 22 seconds left.
Before the Patriots’ game-winning drive, the Jets had managed to take the lead in the fourth quarter. Down 17-16, quarterback Aaron Rodgers led a 70-yard drive, including back-to-back passes to wide receiver Garrett Wilson and a 17-yard pass to wide receiver Davante Adams. Braelon Allen scored from two yards out to give the Jets a 22-17 lead with 2:57 left, although they failed to convert a two-point attempt after a delay of game penalty.
The game was also notable for the Patriots’ quarterback change. First-round pick Drake Maye left the game in the second quarter due to a concussion and was replaced by Jacoby Brissett. Maye had thrown for 23 yards and rushed for 46 yards, scoring New England’s first touchdown before his injury.
Throughout the game, the Jets struggled with penalties, flawed operations, and missed kicks. Kicker Greg Zuerlein missed an extra point and a field goal, adding to the team’s woes. Despite these challenges, Rodgers finished with 217 yards passing and two touchdowns, while Garrett Wilson had a standout performance with five catches for 113 yards.
