New York Liberty WNBA Championship Parade: Route, Schedule, and Celebrations
The New York Liberty is set to celebrate their historic WNBA championship title with a ticker-tape parade on Thursday, October 24, in New York City. The parade will take place along the iconic “Canyon of Heroes,” a stretch of Broadway between Battery Place and City Hall in Manhattan‘s Financial District.
The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. from Battery Park and will proceed north along Broadway to City Hall. Spectators are advised to arrive by 9 a.m. to secure a viewing spot. The parade route will include Broadway from Battery Place to City Hall, with accessible viewing areas at Zuccotti Park and along Broadway’s east and west sides from Morris Street to Park Row and from Battery Place to Chambers Street, respectively.
The event is free and open to all, but attendees are strongly advised against driving due to extensive street closures. Affected streets include State Street, Battery Place, 3rd Place, 2nd Place, Little West Street, West Street, and Morris Street. Pedestrian crossings will be available at several points along the route, including Broadway and Exchange Alley, Cedar Street, Cortlandt Street, Vesey Street, Chambers Street, and Reade Street.
Mass transit will also be impacted, with trains skipping the City Hall R/W station and certain subway entrances and exits closed. The MTA recommends using the 4/5 subway lines to Bowling Green, the 1 line to South Ferry, or the R/W to Whitehall Street. Many MTA buses will be re-routed due to the street closures.
Following the parade, a ceremony at City Hall will take place from noon to 1 p.m., where Mayor Eric Adams will present the team with the Key to the City. In the evening, a fan celebration will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., although tickets for both events have already sold out.
The city sanitation department is preparing for the aftermath with extensive cleaning equipment and personnel. Fans can also purchase championship merchandise at the Brooklyn Fanatics store at the Barclays Center, which will have extended hours throughout the week.
