Brett Berard New York Rangers Hartford Wolf Pack

The New York Rangers have made significant roster moves, announcing the recall of forward Brett Berard from the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Hartford Wolf Pack. This move could mark Berard’s NHL debut, a milestone in his young career. Berard, 22, has been impressive with the Wolf Pack, leading the team in goals with seven and points with 13 (7 goals, 6 assists) this season. In the 2023-24 season, he had a standout rookie year, scoring 25 goals and 23 assists in 71 games, finishing second among AHL rookies in goals.

Originally selected by the Rangers in the fifth round (134th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Berard has shown consistent offensive prowess. He also contributed six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in ten Calder Cup Playoff games last spring. Berard’s performance has earned him a chance to make his NHL debut, potentially against the St. Louis Blues.

In conjunction with Berard’s recall, the Rangers have assigned defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to the Hartford Wolf Pack. Ruhwedel, 34, a veteran defenseman and former Stanley Cup champion, has seen limited action this season, playing in one NHL game and seven AHL games. He was acquired by the Rangers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 7, 2024.

This roster adjustment also involves defenseman Victor Mancini, who has been assigned to the Wolf Pack. Mancini, a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, has played ten NHL games for the Rangers this season, recording a goal and three assists. However, he has struggled with possession, posting a 36.3 CF% at even strength.
