Newcastle United Block Sale of Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson Amid Transfer Speculation
Newcastle United has made it clear that neither Kieran Trippier nor Callum Wilson will be leaving the club amidst recent transfer speculation. The club has responded to offers from Atlético Madrid and Bayern Munich, expressing their intent to keep both England internationals.
A potential move to Bayern Munich appeared to tempt Trippier, but Newcastle has informed the player and the club that he is not for sale. At 33 years old, Trippier may have been enticed by the chance to play alongside fellow England teammates Harry Kane and Eric Dier, but he has assured the Newcastle board that he is content to remain at St James’ Park.
Newcastle has also decided to hold onto Wilson, who has been out with a calf injury. The 31-year-old striker has expressed his desire to stay at the club. However, this could impact Newcastle’s pursuit of a midfielder in the current transfer window.
The club’s restricted finances due to profit and sustainability rules make it necessary to sell a player in order to bring in a high-value signing. Everton‘s loan offer for midfielder Nabil Bentaleb was rejected, leaving Newcastle to explore alternatives such as Philip Billing from Bournemouth, Khéphren Thuram from Nice, and Manu Koné from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The club has not given up on signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester City, although the potential stumbling block is the asking price of around £50 million.
Newcastle remains active in the transfer market and will continue to seek new signings up until the deadline, with hopes of bolstering their midfield options. As the deadline approaches, it is expected that the market will start gaining momentum.
