Newport County Secures Victory to Set Up Clash Against Manchester United
Newport County secured a place in the Fourth Round of the Emirates FA Cup with a remarkable 3-1 victory against Eastleigh at Silverlake Stadium. In a pulsating match filled with fine goals, Aaron Wildig opened the scoring early on to give the Exiles the advantage. Paul McCallum equalized for Eastleigh after the break with a thunderous strike, but it was James Clarke and Will Evans who sealed the win for Newport County. This victory sets up an exciting clash against Manchester United in the next round.
Manager Graham Coughlan made several changes from the winning lineup against Doncaster Rovers, including bringing in Harry Charsley, Aaron Wildig, and Seb Palmer-Houlden to the starting eleven. Kyle Jameson also made his long-awaited return from injury to feature on the bench. The match got off to a dream start for Newport County as Wildig scored in the second minute after a quick counter-attack. Moments later, Palmer-Houlden attempted an audacious side volley that narrowly missed the target. Newport County continued to press for another goal, and a strong save from McDonnell denied Scot Bennett from doubling their lead.
In the second half, Eastleigh came out strongly in search of an equalizer, and they found it just two minutes after the restart with a fantastic strike from McCallum. However, Newport County responded brilliantly, with Clarke heading them back into the lead after McLoughlin’s far post delivery. The Exiles continued to create chances, and Evans sealed the victory with a thunderous strike after a well-worked move down the left-hand side.
Newport County will now face Manchester United at Rodney Parade on Sunday 28th January in what promises to be a thrilling match. Manager Graham Coughlan, a lifelong Manchester United fan, expressed his excitement and pride in his team’s achievement, considering it a dream come true. The Exiles will relish the opportunity to test themselves against one of the biggest clubs in English football.
