Neymar Returns to Santos in Emotional Homecoming Celebration
SANTOS, Brazil — Soccer superstar Neymar made an emotional return to his boyhood club Santos FC on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, signing a contract until June and being welcomed by thousands of ecstatic fans at Vila Belmiro stadium.
The 32-year-old forward, who began his career at Santos before moving to Europe in 2013, arrived by helicopter in São Paulo before heading to the club’s training center. He then made his way to Vila Belmiro, where a massive celebration awaited. The event featured live performances by artists including Mano Brown and Projota, alongside Neymar’s official presentation as a Santos player.
“This is where it all began for me,” Neymar said during his press conference. “Returning to Santos is like coming home. I want to help the team achieve great things and give back to the fans who have always supported me.”
Neymar, who wore the iconic No. 10 jersey during his first stint with Santos, was photographed posing with the No. 1 shirt this time. He also shared moments with his daughter Mavie and partner Bruna Biancardi, who accompanied him to the event.
Club president Marcelo Teixeira expressed his excitement about the signing. “Neymar is not just a player; he’s a symbol of Santos’ history and success. His return is a dream come true for everyone associated with the club,” Teixeira said.
The event drew a record crowd to Vila Belmiro, with fans eager to witness the return of their “prince,” as Neymar is affectionately known. The stadium was filled to capacity, with many more supporters gathering outside to catch a glimpse of the star.
Neymar’s return marks a significant moment for Santos, which has struggled in recent years to replicate the success it enjoyed during his first tenure. Between 2009 and 2013, Neymar helped the club win multiple titles, including the Copa Libertadores and the Campeonato Paulista.
The signing comes after months of negotiations, with Neymar agreeing to a short-term deal until the end of June. While the financial details were not disclosed, the move is seen as a boost for both Santos and Brazilian soccer, which has seen many of its top talents move abroad in recent years.
As the celebration concluded, Neymar took to the field to perform his signature goal celebration, much to the delight of the crowd. The event was broadcast live on ESPN Brasil, with fans across the country tuning in to witness the historic moment.
