Bad Bunny Super Bowl Halftime Show

NEW YORK — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed on Wednesday the decision to feature Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny as the headline performer for the Super Bowl halftime show on February 8, 2026, drawing mixed reactions.

Goodell’s remarks came during a news conference following the NFL’s fall meeting, where he addressed criticism from former President Donald Trump and others regarding Bad Bunny’s selection. The Grammy-winning artist, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has faced backlash for primarily performing in Spanish. However, Goodell stood firmly behind the decision.

“It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell stated. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism.” He highlighted the global popularity of Bad Bunny as a key factor in the choice, adding, “He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world. It’s an important stage for us and an important element to the entertainment value.”

Bad Bunny is scheduled to perform during Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Despite mixed reactions, including concerns about his previous opposition to Trump, Goodell expressed confidence in the show. “We’re confident it’s going to be a great show. He understands the platform that he’s on, and I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment,” he said.

Trump, in an October interview, criticized the choice, saying he had never heard of Bad Bunny and labeling the decision “crazy.” Meanwhile, some conservative commentators suggested replacing Bad Bunny with another performer, sparking further debate.

Adding to the tension, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem indicated that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would enhance its presence at the Super Bowl, stating, “There will be ICE enforcement at the Super Bowl. There will be, because the Department of Homeland Security is responsible for keeping it safe.”

Despite the controversy, Shakira expressed her support for Bad Bunny, praising his representation of Latin culture. “I’m so proud that Bad Bunny… is getting to perform on the biggest stage in the world. It’s the perfect moment for a performance like this,” she said.

As the countdown to the Super Bowl begins, the excitement surrounding Bad Bunny’s performance continues to grow, with many looking forward to a unique show filled with cultural significance.
