Nfl Draft 2025 Buffalo Bills Cornerback

GREEN BAY, Wis. — As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, the Buffalo Bills are expected to target a cornerback or defensive tackle with their first-round pick on Thursday night.

Consensus from various mock drafts indicates that Buffalo’s most pressing needs are at cornerback and the defensive line, specifically the 1-technique position. The team has made some moves in free agency, signing Dane Jackson and Tre'Davious White, yet they still require a long-term solution to play alongside Christian Benford. Moreover, the defensive line did not see any additions through free agency, highlighting the need for an heir to DaQuan Jones.

While edge rushers and wide receivers remain lower on the Bills’ priority list, drafting a player of value could tempt management into selecting one of those positions. However, linebacker is not a position being heavily discussed as a first-round option, despite the unexpected link to UCLA’s Carson Schwesinger. Schwesinger, projected as a Day 2 pick by many, could slip into the late first round, with insiders speculating that Buffalo might be interested, particularly if defensive help is a priority.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, “UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger, projected by many as a Day 2 pick, has a chance to go in the end of Round 1 to a team such as the Commanders or Bills looking for additional defensive help.” That sentiment was echoed by Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson, who mentioned the Bills could consider moving up in the draft if a preferred cornerback becomes available.

Additionally, CBS Sports analyst Chris Trapasso noted that Schwesinger’s instincts and versatility make him a valuable asset to any linebacker corps. “He’s a human bloodhound,” Trapasso stated, referring to Schwesinger’s elite instincts. Despite concerns around his size and ability to shed blocks, his prowess in tackling and coverage has made him an intriguing option.

On the trade front, the Bills have 10 draft picks but may consider trading up from their 30th position for a cornerback if the opportunity arises. Robinson specifically mentioned Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron, highlighting that the Bills could target him if he available around the 21st pick.

“If Texas corner Jahdae Barron gets to the 21st pick in the draft, I could absolutely see the Bills calling and inquiring about moving to 21 from 30,” he said, underscoring the Bills’ potential to make aggressive moves in the draft.

As we draw closer to the draft, speculation will continue to build, but it is clear the Bills’ focus remains firmly on strengthening their defense with this first-round selection.
