Nfl Draft Prospects Mukuba Safety

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Former Texas safety Andrew Mukuba hopes to be selected during the NFL Draft, which runs from April 24 to 26. Mukuba, 22, projected to be a second or third-day pick, returned to his hometown of Austin after a successful collegiate career.

“I’m hoping to prove that to myself really, but also prove to everybody that I’m the best safety in this draft for sure,” Mukuba told reporters. “I know guys come up here and say that, but I actually believe it and mean it.” Mukuba started as a freshman at Clemson before finishing his college career at Texas, where he contributed to one of the nation’s top defenses.

While Mukuba may not possess the ideal NFL frame, he has played his way into mid-round consideration. He recorded five interceptions and excelled as an open-field tackler, drawing praise from Texas coach Steve Sarkisian for his ability to limit yards after catch. Mukuba was vital in leading Texas to the College Football Playoff semifinals this past season.

Draft analysts rank him as a mid- to late-round pick. Various projections have Mukuba going as high as No. 56 to the Buffalo Bills and as low as No. 145 to the New York Jets. His scouting report notes his physical play style, high football IQ, and solid ball skills, though concerns about his slightly undersized build for an NFL safety remain.

Mukuba’s career statistics at Texas include 69 tackles, six passes defended, and five interceptions in 15 games during his final season. Despite his size, he plays with a ferocity and tenacity typical of larger defenders. Mukuba’s diverse secondary experience, playing both defensive back and receiver in high school, adds to his appeal as a versatile player capable of defending multiple positions.

As draft day approaches, Mukuba is eager for the next step in his football journey. The NFL draft gives him a chance to realize his long-held dream of playing professionally, and he believes he has the skills to make a significant impact.
