NFL Honors 2024: MVP Finalists Revealed Ahead of Feb. 6 Ceremony
NEW YORK, N.Y. — The finalists for The Associated Press‘ 2024 NFL awards, including the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) honor, were announced Thursday, setting the stage for the 14th annual NFL Honors ceremony on Feb. 6. The event, hosted by Snoop Dogg, will air live on FOX and NFL Network and stream on NFL+.
The MVP race features five standout players: Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions, and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens. Jackson, the reigning MVP, is vying for his third award after leading the Ravens to an AFC North title with career-high passing numbers.
Barkley, who rushed for 2,005 yards this season, is also a finalist for Offensive Player of the Year, alongside Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, Derrick Henry, and Jackson. Chase, the Bengals’ star wide receiver, led the league in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, earning a unanimous All-Pro selection.
On the defensive side, Eagles linebacker Zach Cunningham, 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa, Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II, and Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt are finalists for Defensive Player of the Year. Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks, while Surtain II allowed just 37 receptions and recorded four interceptions.
Rookie honors are also up for grabs, with Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, Giants receiver Malik Nabers, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, and Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. competing for Offensive Rookie of the Year. On defense, Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo, Rams defensive tackle Braden Fiske, and Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips are among the finalists.
Coaching accolades include finalists Dan Campbell of the Lions, Kevin O'Connell of the Vikings, Sean Payton of the Broncos, Dan Quinn of the Commanders, and Andy Reid of the Chiefs. Campbell led the Lions to a 15-3 record and the NFC’s top seed, while Reid aims for a third consecutive Super Bowl victory with the Chiefs.
The winners will be determined by a nationwide panel of 50 media members who voted before the playoffs began. The ceremony will also feature the announcement of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year and the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
