Nfl Legend Golden Richards Passes Away At 73

Golden Richards, the celebrated NFL wide receiver famed for his prowess on the field, has passed away at the age of 73 due to congestive heart failure at his residence in Murray.

Richards’ nephew, Lance Richards, confirmed the news of his uncle’s demise in a social media post, reminiscing about their shared moments of hunting adventures and discussions about the Dallas Cowboys.

The former Dallas, Chicago, and Denver player rose to fame during his time as a deep-play threat with the Cowboys, leaving a lasting impact on the team and its fans.

During the 1978 Super Bowl showdown against Denver, Richards showcased his exceptional skills by catching a crucial touchdown pass from fullback Robert Newhouse, a play that solidified the Cowboys’ victory.

Richards’ career spanned seven fruitful seasons in the NFL, amassing impressive records and earning a reputation as a reliable player on the field.

His journey from a standout at BYU to the NFL was marked by numerous memorable performances, including his remarkable average of over 21 yards per catch during his time with Dallas.

Despite battling health issues and addiction post-retirement, Richards managed to stay sober for the last decade of his life, demonstrating resilience and strength.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011, Richards faced challenges with grace and was supported by his adult sons, Goldie Jr. and Jordan, in his final years.

His dedication to the sport, coupled with his personal struggles and triumphs, exemplified the true spirit of a sports icon, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by many.
