BRENTWOOD, Calif. — With the NFL Draft just over a month away, teams face a season of uncertainty, especially in mock drafts. As predictions swirl regarding the top prospects for 2025, analysts warn of potential surprises in the first round.

This year’s mock draft is particularly unpredictable due to a scarcity of clear-cut top prospects at key positions. Furthermore, depth in areas like defensive line complicates assessments, forcing teams to consider various options based on their needs.

“Every year there’s a level of guesswork surrounding the draft, but this year feels more volatile,” said Mike Renner, a draft analyst for CBS Sports. “There’s potential for movement among the 32 picks that hasn’t been the case in previous drafts.”

The draft is scheduled for April 24-26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Fans and analysts alike are gearing up for what promises to be an unpredictable event.

As the first round approaches, several teams are contemplating crucial selections. The New York Giants, picking at No. 3, face a significant decision between selecting a quarterback or trading the pick. Recent performances by Will Levis have raised questions about his viability, leaving analysts divided between sticking with the incumbent or pursuing newcomer Cam Ward from Miami.

“The Giants are in a pivotal situation,” Renner noted. “If they believe in Ward, they could secure a foundation for the future.”

At the No. 1 pick, the Cleveland Browns may also explore quarterback options, given the possibility of a trade. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers, historically shy about first-round wide receivers, might finally take the plunge to enhance their lineup. Analysts are eyeing Luther Burden III for this important role.

“With emerging injury concerns among their existing receivers, the Packers may have no choice but to adapt,” said Renner. “Burden could provide the spark they need.”

As analysts dissect potential picks, teams must remain conscious of the dynamics that influence draft decisions, ranging from player trades to last-minute negotiations.

The encapsulating excitement around NFL Draft coverage continues to grow online, with resources available for fans on platforms like CBS Sports, including podcasts centered on player analysis and draft predictions.

“It’s a unique time of year,” Renner concluded. “With constant updates and shifting narratives, staying informed is essential, leading up to the starting gun on April 24.”
