2025 NFL Mock Draft: Shedeur Sanders, Top Prospects Highlight First Round
CLEVELAND, Ohio — As the NFL season winds down, attention shifts to the 2025 NFL Draft, where teams are already evaluating top prospects to bolster their rosters. With three-quarters of the league’s season concluded, draft analysts are projecting a mix of rising stars and established college standouts to dominate the first round.
Among the most intriguing names is Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, whose quick release and accuracy have drawn comparisons to recent NFL draft picks Bo Nix and Michael Penix. Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, is projected to land with the Las Vegas Raiders, who are in need of a long-term solution at quarterback. “His defining traits are his quick release and accuracy to all levels of the field,” one analyst noted.
Another standout is Travis Hunter, the Colorado wide receiver and cornerback who has dazzled with his versatility. Hunter, who has excelled on both sides of the ball, is seen as a potential top pick for the Cleveland Browns. “NFL teams seem to view him as a full-time corner who can rotate in on offense, but Hunter will lobby hard to play both sides,” said a draft insider.
Defensive players are also expected to make a significant impact in the first round. Michigan defensive back Will Johnson, who had a stellar 2023 season, is projected to join the New York Giants to shore up their secondary. Meanwhile, Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter, who had a breakout 2024 season, is predicted to land with the New England Patriots to address their pass-rushing woes.
Other notable projections include Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon, who led the nation in interior pressures, and Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., who is considered one of the top linemen in the draft. “Banks could pair with Terron Armstead to give Miami two excellent tackles,” said an analyst.
As the draft approaches, teams will continue to refine their boards, but one thing is certain: the 2025 NFL Draft promises to be as unpredictable as it is exciting.
