NFL Playoff Chances Heating Up as Season Approaches Midpoint
NEW YORK, NY — As the NFL season enters its second half, the playoff race is becoming increasingly intense. ESPN analytics writer Seth Walder provided an analysis of all 32 teams, divided into nine tiers of playoff prospects, during a report published on November 9, 2025.
Teams’ chances of reaching the playoffs vary widely, influenced by factors including injuries and future strength of schedule. Existing statistics, particularly ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) and other performance metrics, contribute to these assessments. Walder stated, “The playoff picture could look entirely different by the time Week 18 arrives.”
The Philadelphia Eagles stand out as strong contenders, boasting a 96.7% chance to make the playoffs and a 96.2% chance to win the NFC East. They aim to secure the top seed in the NFC, particularly after recent wins against the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.
In the NFC West, the Los Angeles Rams have a 95.2% playoff chance and aim for home-field advantage. Despite concerns in previous seasons, quarterback Matthew Stafford’s performance has kept their hopes alive, targeting strong finishes against rivals like the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in upcoming weeks.
The Buffalo Bills, at 87.2%, aim to overcome recent losses and earn the AFC’s No. 1 seed. With quarterback Josh Allen leading the way, they must address issues in their run defense while navigating tough competition against the New England Patriots in the AFC East.
The Seattle Seahawks are also in play with an 91.7% playoff probability, but must improve their run game to strengthen their standings, led by quarterback Sam Darnold and the offensive lineup.
As the season progresses, teams like the Baltimore Ravens and the Indianapolis Colts demonstrate resilience, while the New England Patriots embrace the opportunities laid out by their evolving roster. However, struggles remain for franchises including the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons, both facing uphill battles to make the postseason with challenging schedules ahead.
With much still to play for, the drive for playoff positioning will lead to thrilling matchups as teams strive for their spots in the race for the Super Bowl.
