NFL Week 1 Kicks Off with Anticipation for 2025 Season

Anticipation for the NFL season is officially underway as Week 1 games begin. The action kicked off Wednesday after three days of individual games were announced. This week has historically set the tone for success in the season ahead.

According to NFL Research, teams that make the playoffs have won 70% of their games in Week 1 since 2020. During the 2024 season, nine of the 14 playoff teams notched victories in their opening games. Remarkably, four of the five playoff teams that lost did so against opponents who eventually advanced to the postseason. The only exception was the Denver Broncos, who fell to the Seattle Seahawks but still made it to the playoffs.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles both marked their openers with wins against future playoff contenders, eventually facing one another in Super Bowl LIX.

This season, the Eagles will defend their title against the Dallas Cowboys, a matchup that opens the 2025 season. Last year, Philadelphia ruled the NFC East, and they are aiming for their second consecutive Super Bowl. In this eagerly awaited game, they hope to become the first team to repeat as NFC East champions since 2004.

The clash will be challenging for rookie head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who will lead the Cowboys in his debut against the reigning champions. Last year, the Eagles defeated the Cowboys by a significant margin in both matchups, scoring a combined 75-13. As Schottenheimer takes the reins, all eyes will be on the Cowboys’ performance as they face the formidable Eagles.
