Nicki Minaj Accused of Assault by Former Manager in Lawsuit
Nicki Minaj‘s former manager, Brandon Jovan Garrett, has filed a lawsuit accusing the rap superstar of assault, battery, and intentional emotional distress following an alleged altercation during her 2023 tour in Detroit. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims Minaj physically and verbally attacked Garrett after a concert at Little Caesars Arena on April 21.
According to the lawsuit, Garrett, who served as Minaj’s “day-to-day manager,” was summoned to her dressing room after purchasing ice cream she had requested. Minaj, whose real name is Onika Maraj, was reportedly upset about how tasks were being handled among her team. The suit alleges that Minaj became enraged when Garrett explained why another employee had picked up her prescriptions, leading to a heated confrontation.
Garrett claims Minaj yelled expletives, threatened him, and physically struck him, causing him to drop documents and flee to a bathroom for safety. The lawsuit states that Minaj told Garrett, “You’re a dead man walking. You just f—– up your whole life and you will never be anyone, I’ll make sure of it.”
The next day, Garrett was informed he would no longer be traveling with the tour. He filed a police report in Detroit, but the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office denied a warrant request due to “insufficient evidence.”
Garrett is seeking a jury trial, alleging that Minaj abused her authority and caused him severe emotional distress. Minaj’s attorney has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
