INDIANAPOLIS, IndianaNolan Siegel is set to make his debut at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 25, as a member of the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team. If he wins, the 20-year-old will become the youngest driver ever to take the victory at this iconic race, beating the record set by A.J. Foyt IV, who raced on his 19th birthday in 2003.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Siegel shared his thoughts on how he spends time off the track. “In the summer now I can go golf and play pickleball,” he said, noting that many of his IndyCar peers live nearby, allowing for easy socializing.

Although he embraces his life as a race car driver, Siegel admits transitioning from Palo Alto, California, to Indianapolis has its challenges. “A lot of the activities that I could do in Northern California are no longer options,” he said. Adjusting to the climate was also a shock, but he has taken control of his life by obtaining his pilot’s license over the offseason, which has become a rewarding hobby.

Siegel expressed a sense of excitement heading into this year’s race, especially after a tough previous year where he faced setbacks during qualifying. Reflecting on those experiences, he stated, “This year it’s way more exciting because the goal is to win the race, and that’s a way better position to be in.”

His father, Mark Siegel, emphasized the character-building aspect of Nolan’s previous struggles, stating, “That crash was very character-building. He went out in the backup car and said, ‘I know this thing is slow, but I’m going to give it 100% no matter what.’”

In light of his successful rookie season, which earned him the 2023 Indy NXT Firestone Rookie of the Year title, Siegel has formed strong bonds with his Arrow McLaren teammates, referencing them as a supportive family that helps each other improve.

With the race on the horizon, Siegel remains optimistic about his performance, reinforcing his determination by sharing, “I’m really excited to be competitive this year.” The Indianapolis 500, where Siegel will race alongside some of the best in the sport, is scheduled to be broadcast live on Fox at 12:45 p.m. ET on May 25.
