Jack Wilshere Coaching

Norwich City is reportedly in advanced discussions with Arsenal to appoint Jack Wilshere to the coaching staff of their first team. Wilshere, a former midfielder for both Arsenal and the England national team, has been chosen to succeed Narcis Pelach at Carrow Road. Wilshere is currently managing Arsenal’s under-18 team, and a compensation package is reportedly being negotiated between the two clubs.

Wilshere, who is 32 years old, reportedly became Norwich’s frontline choice after discussions last week. The club hopes to complete the agreement imminently, pending any unforeseen issues. Wilshere’s appointment is expected to be finalized soon, although it is unlikely he will join the bench for the upcoming match against Stoke City.

Norwich City’s sporting director, Ben Knapper, shares a history with Wilshere from their time together at Arsenal, which has facilitated discussions. This connection is seen as a driving factor in Wilshere’s potential transition to Norwich.

Norwich’s previous first-team coach, Narcis Pelach, left for Stoke City last month, which triggered the search for a successor. Joe Shulberg, Norwich’s Academy Manager, has temporarily filled the position. It is reported that initial conversations with other potential candidates took place, but Wilshere’s detailed approach and enthusiasm made him the leading candidate.

Wilshere retired from professional play following a stint in Denmark with AGF, officially hanging up his boots in July 2022, after which he began his coaching career at Arsenal’s academy. His passion for coaching reportedly reignited his love for the sport despite the challenges he faced with injuries and consistency at the end of his playing career.

Johannes Hoff Thorup, Norwich’s head coach, acknowledged at a recent press conference that the club is close to confirming a new first-team coach, although he cautiously indicated that the appointment might not be completed in time for the upcoming fixture.

Norwich City, currently positioned seventh in the Championship, is helmed by coach Thorup, who joined the club on a three-year contract after their playoff defeat last season.
