Mitch Jeter Notre Dame Kicker Orange Bowl 2025

As Notre Dame prepares to face Penn State in the Orange Bowl and College Football Playoff semifinals, the Fighting Irish are leaning on their reliable kicker, Mitch Jeter. The transfer from South Carolina has made five of his six field goal attempts this season, including a perfect three-for-three in Notre Dame’s last game. Jeter’s performance has been crucial as the team eyes a national championship.

Despite sharing a last name with MLB Hall-of-Famer Derek Jeter, the Notre Dame kicker has no relation to the legendary shortstop. Mitch Jeter’s parents, Andrew and Stacy Jeter, hail from North Carolina, while Derek Jeter’s family is famously tied to New Jersey and Michigan. According to sources, Mitch’s parents met while attending East Carolina University, where Andrew was a collegiate swimmer.

Jeter grew up in Salisbury, N.C., and attended high school in Concord before committing to South Carolina. Initially, he juggled soccer and football but eventually focused solely on football. His collegiate career began at South Carolina, where he became the primary placekicker in his third year. Over two seasons, Jeter missed only two field goals and three extra points, making him a sought-after transfer portal candidate.

This season, Jeter has faced some challenges with field goals but remains perfect on extra points. His consistency and clutch performances have solidified his role as a key player for Notre Dame. As the Fighting Irish take the national stage, Jeter’s contributions could prove decisive in their quest for a championship.
