Nottingham Forest Fans Race to Wembley After London Marathon

NOTTINGHAM, England – Nottingham Forest fans are gearing up for an exciting Sunday as they plan to participate in the London Marathon before heading to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.
The 26.2-mile race begins at 09:35 BST, while the football match kicks off at 16:30. Many fans are hopeful to finish the marathon in time to witness their team’s big game.
Liberty Flint, a 27-year-old runner from West Bridgford, has joined forces with her boyfriend Matt, father Mark, and friend Ellie for her second marathon. They have already raised over £7,000 for a children’s cancer charity. Flint expressed excitement, saying, “It will be an incredible day all in all if Forest win and we complete the London Marathon.”
While the runners aim for good times, Flint assured that no one will be left behind, stating, “We’ll all go together because we’ve all been training together.” She estimated they would finish the marathon around 15:00, leaving them about 90 minutes to reach Wembley.
Mick Greener, a 29-year-old teacher also running his fourth London Marathon, hopes to finish in around two hours and 45 minutes to allow time for a shower before the match. He noted the clash of scheduling was initially frustrating, as he wanted to be in Nottingham for the game. However, he was excited to secure tickets to the semi-final.
Thirty-year-old Andy Aiston, from Giltbrook, is aiming to complete the marathon in under three hours. He reflected on the overlap of the events, saying, “It could either be the best day ever if I finish the marathon and Forest win, or it could be absolutely tragic.”
In preparation for the influx of fans, train services are being adjusted. East Midlands Railway advised supporters to expect busy trains and limited services due to ongoing engineering works. However, London North Eastern Railway announced additional trains to accommodate fans.
As the runners tackle the marathon, Nottingham Forest aims to secure a spot in the FA Cup final. The semi-final match is drawing significant attention, with both teams looking to advance. Forest last reached the FA Cup final in 1991 and is currently competing for a place in next year’s Champions League.
All eyes will be on both events this Sunday, as fans hope for a memorable day filled with triumph.
