Novak Djokovic French Open 2025

PARIS, France — World No. 6 Novak Djokovic celebrated his advancement to the second round of Roland Garros on May 28, 2025, with a straight-sets victory over French player Corentin Moutet.

Djokovic, a three-time champion at the French Open and holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, faced crowd support favoring his opponent. Despite this, he remained unfazed, stating, “It’s nothing strange about it. I just expect if I play a French player in Roland-Garros, I would expect that most of the people would cheer the French player.”

Moutet, known for his left-handed play and emotional style, presented a unique challenge, but Djokovic was determined to add to his legacy. “It’s a battle out there, you know. Sometimes it’s not just a battle with the player,” he remarked.

Earlier in the day, 18-year-old Mirra Andreeva continued her rise in the tournament by defeating Ashlyn Krueger. Reflecting on her approach to matches, she said, “Honestly, I don’t feel the difference when either it’s hot or it’s cold.” Having reached the semifinals at Roland Garros last year, Andreeva is seen as a strong contender for the title this year.

Cameron Norrie also made headlines, achieving an upset win against former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller. He now prepares to face Federico Gomez, who he practiced with previously, noting his opponent’s significant skills. “I know on his day, he’s very tough to beat,” Norrie said before the match.

On the women’s side, Madison Keys cruised past Australian qualifier Daria Saville 6-2, 6-1. She commented on her performance, noting, “It’s always a good start to come here and get the win.” Keys is poised to build on her recent Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open.

As matches continued into the evening, Jannik Sinner, the men’s top seed, and defending champion, prepared for his match against Arthur Rinderknech, while American star Frances Tiafoe maintained control in his second-round match.

The excitement of the tournament reflects its stature as one of the most prestigious in the tennis world, with each match contributing to a historic backdrop.
