Denver Nuggets Vs Los Angeles Clippers Playoff Game

DENVER, Colorado — The Denver Nuggets defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 112-110, in a thrilling playoff opener Saturday night at Ball Arena. NBA star Russell Westbrook played a pivotal role, coming through in clutch moments against his former team.

Westbrook hit a crucial corner 3-pointer late in regulation to give Denver a two-point lead. He also made a key defensive play by knocking the inbounds pass away from Paul George, securing the victory for the Nuggets. “That’s who he is,” head coach Michael Malone said after the game.

Despite missing 12 of his 17 shots, Westbrook contributed significantly to the game, helping L.A. commit a staggering 20 turnovers. Interim coach David Adelman praised Westbrook’s defensive prowess. “Defensively, he’s absolutely incredible. He was playing free safety out there,” Adelman said.

Nikola Jokic was a standout for Denver, scoring 29 points and just missing a triple-double with nine rebounds. Jamal Murray contributed 25 points and 21 assists, leading the Nuggets from a 15-point deficit to a comeback win.

The Clippers’ loss halted their impressive streak, having won 18 of their last 21 games, including eight in a row. Coach Tyronn Lue attributed the defeat to the team’s turnovers. “If you turn over 20 times against the team that is No. 1 in offensive transition, then you’re gonna lose the game,” he said.

James Harden was the top scorer for the Clippers with 32 points, while Kawhi Leonard and Paul George added 22 and 21 points, respectively. Leonard remained upbeat despite the loss, stating, “Just Game 1. You know, Denver’s a good team, especially at home. Still got Game 2.” That next game is set for Monday night.

Adelman highlighted the importance of a strong finish to the second quarter, where the Nuggets outscored the Clippers 13-2 to narrow the gap to just four points at halftime. Westbrook shared his perspective on scoring, noting, “In the playoffs, all you need to do is just win the game. I don’t give a damn about how many shots you miss. Just make winning basketball plays.” The Nuggets look to build on this momentum as they continue their playoff campaign.
