Nuggets Fall in Double Overtime Despite Jokic’s Record Night

DENVER, Colo. — The Denver Nuggets experienced a heart-wrenching defeat on April 1, 2025, falling 140-139 to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a double-overtime nail-biter at home.
The much-anticipated matchup featured a dazzling performance from Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, who scored a career-high 61 points along with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. However, a series of late-game blunders from the Nuggets and their star guard, Russell Westbrook, overshadowed Jokic’s historic night.
With just seconds remaining in regulation and the Nuggets leading by two, Westbrook mishandled a crucial turnover, allowing Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards an opportunity to tie the game. Instead, Minnesota regained possession and sent guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker to the free-throw line with 0.1 seconds left on the clock, following a foul committed by Westbrook.
Alexander-Walker sank the first two free throws to tie the game before intentionally missing the final shot, ensuring the Timberwolves escaped with the win. “It was just a tough break for us,” Westbrook said postgame. “We had the game, but I made some errors at critical moments.”
Despite Jokic’s record-breaking performance, the Nuggets couldn’t seal the victory. The team now holds a 47-29 record on the season, tied with the Los Angeles Lakers in terms of losses but still maintaining the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.
The Timberwolves improved to 44-32 and moved into a tie for the sixth seed in the West, just half a game behind the fifth seed.
Looking ahead, the Nuggets are set to face the San Antonio Spurs on the second night of a back-to-back and are eager to bounce back from their recent loss. “We have to put this behind us and focus on getting another win,” said Jokic. “Every game is crucial now as we head into the playoffs.”
As the regular season comes to a close, the Nuggets need every victory to secure a favorable playoff position. Their upcoming schedule features tough matchups against the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies, highlighting the importance of recovering quickly from Tuesday’s emotional defeat.
