Nuggets Win Against Pelicans Fueled by Jokic’s Triple-Double
NEW ORLEANS, LA — The Denver Nuggets edged the New Orleans Pelicans 125-118 in a hard-fought game on Wednesday night. Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets with a triple-double, scoring 28 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and providing 11 assists.
Denver secured its eighth win in nine games, with Peyton Watson contributing a career-high 32 points. Watson’s performance proved crucial as he helped the Nuggets recover from an early deficit and close out the game smoothly.
New Orleans struggled despite the return of Zion Williamson, who scored 14 points in 29 minutes after missing eight games due to a left hamstring injury. Williamson’s return gave the Pelicans an early 13-point lead, making it 23-10 in the first quarter.
The game turned when Denver began to capitalize on the Pelicans’ mistakes. Jokic’s strong play led to nine turnovers for the center, who eventually fouled out with just under three minutes remaining. Denver took control by finishing the second quarter on a 10-0 run, with Watson hitting a key three-pointer that made it 51-49 just before halftime.
Even after trailing by 19 points, the Pelicans rallied back, narrowing the gap to single digits in the final minutes. However, timely jumpers from former Pelican Monte Morris sealed the victory for Denver.
For the Pelicans, rookie Derik Queen also emerged as a standout, scoring a season-high 30 points along with nine rebounds. His solid performance showcased the team’s future talent.
The Pelicans, now on a seven-game losing streak, fell to 2-13 for the season, and they are 0-3 under interim coach James Borrego. Following the loss, Borrego reminded the team of its potential despite the tough stretch.
Looking ahead, the Nuggets will face off against the Golden State Warriors on Friday, while the Pelicans will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
