Oakland Athletics Sign Brent Rooker to $60M Contract Extension
The Oakland Athletics have secured designated hitter Brent Rooker with a five-year, $60 million contract extension, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The deal, which includes a vesting option for a sixth season, could potentially increase the total value to $90 million. ESPN‘s Jeff Passan reported that the option’s base value is $22 million. Rooker, represented by The Bledsoe Agency, is set to remain a key player for the A’s as they navigate their transition to Las Vegas.
Rooker, 30, had a standout 2024 season, slashing .293/.365/.526 with career-high numbers in home runs, RBIs, stolen bases, and runs scored. His performance made him a valuable asset for the Athletics, who are looking to stabilize their roster amid ongoing relocation plans. The extension buys out Rooker’s arbitration years and secures his presence during the team’s move to Las Vegas, providing cost certainty and continuity.
