Oakmont Country Club U.s. Open 2025

PITTSBURGH, PA — Oakmont Country Club, one of the most prestigious golf courses in the United States, is preparing to host its 10th U.S. Open starting June 12, 2025. Known for its challenging layout and rich history, Oakmont has become a landmark in the world of golf.

Over the years, a tight-knit group of local golfers, humorously claiming, “We’re members but we don’t belong,” has made Oakmont their home. Despite their humble beginnings, the camaraderie among these men reflects the working-class spirit characteristic of the Pittsburgh area.

Oakmont is not your typical exclusive club. Its clubhouse exudes history, and visitors are greeted with warmth if they follow the basic rules—removing hats and tucking in shirts. However, membership is exclusive, often requiring invitations from existing members or a notable status in the golf community.

The initiation fee to join Oakmont is approximately $150,000, coupled with monthly dues of around $1,250 and an annual food-and-beverage minimum of $2,000 for basic membership. There are different membership tiers that make the club accessible to a select few, with 400 standard members among approximately 835 total members.

Winning golfers at the U.S. Open are awarded honorary memberships, joining a revered group that includes legends like Jack Nicklaus and Ernie Els. This year’s champion will add to this elite list after the tournament concludes on June 15.

While Oakmont’s costs are significant, they are comparable to other high-end golf clubs, where initiation fees can top $250,000. Oakmont’s exclusive environment is reinforced by its members, who are often renowned figures in the sport, including Masters champions and U.S. Open low amateurs.

The course, recently revamped by architect Gil Hanse, features a challenging 7,400-yard layout and is recognized as one of the top 100 golf courses in America. Ahead of the tournament, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the favorite, aiming for a fourth major win amidst tough competition from other acclaimed golfers.
