Ohio State’s Julian Sayin Poised to Lead as 2025 Starting Quarterback

COLUMBUS, Ohio — After a year of preparation and learning from notable coaches, Julian Sayin is set to take over as the starting quarterback for Ohio State‘s 2025 football season. Following a national championship victory, the Buckeyes will now transition as Sayin aims to lead the team into the new season.
Sayin, who transferred from Alabama, has emerged as a key player in head coach Ryan Day’s quarterback system, garnering attention as the potential starter. Originally one of the top recruits in the 2024 class, Sayin was ready to lead the Crimson Tide before circumstances shifted, prompting his move to Ohio State.
“It’s been awesome being under Coach Day and Coach Kelly, learning from them and seeing their experiences,” Sayin stated. “Being in a QB-friendly offense and having great receivers has really helped my development.”
His path to the starting role was aided by observing previous starter Will Howard, who left a legacy of leadership that Sayin is now ready to own. “Julian’s one of the most accurate quarterbacks I’ve been around,” said Howard. “The ball just looks so pretty coming out of his hand. He’s definitely stepping into that leadership position.”
Last season, Sayin demonstrated his talents over several games, making him the only freshman quarterback at Ohio State to achieve ‘Official Buckeye’ status. While he completed modest statistics, his growth over the past season has positioned him as the frontrunner for the role.
With an upcoming competition against Texas slated for August 30, Sayin understands the importance of this spring practice period. “The year of learning is over, and it’s time to showcase everything I’ve learned,” he expressed. “I want to help Ohio State produce more Heisman Trophy finalists and first-round draft picks.”
OSU entered the spring with high expectations while navigating a roster that has undergone considerable turnover. With key contributors from the 2024 title-winning squad now gone, the incoming and returning players must adapt quickly.
“I’ve learned a lot from watching Will,” Sayin added. “Seeing how he commanded the team and handled the pressure has been invaluable.”
This season is particularly crucial for the Buckeyes as they adjust to a new starting quarterback amid significant roster changes. Coach Day aims to cultivate Sayin’s growth and ensure on-field success as they prepare for a formidable opponent in their first game.
Sayin’s journey as he prepares to lead the Buckeyes is filled with promise, with players and coaches eager to see how he translates his preparation into performance this fall. As he continues to evolve, expectations for him only grow.
