Ohio State Wins National Championship After Decade-Long Drought
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State reclaimed its place atop college football on Monday night, securing its first national championship in 10 years with a decisive victory over their opponent. Quarterback J.J. Post led the charge, throwing for 231 yards and two touchdowns, while running back added 100 rushing yards and two scores.
The Buckeyes’ last national title came on Jan. 12, 2015, marking the end of a 40-year drought. Since then, the sports and entertainment landscapes have undergone significant changes. In 2015, the Golden State Warriors, led by MVP Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, were dominating the NBA, while Mark Ronson‘s “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars topped the Billboard charts.
Ohio State’s victory also coincided with the rise of future NFL stars Joe Burrow and Denzel Ward, who were part of the Buckeyes’ 2015 recruiting class. Burrow, now a top NFL quarterback, transferred to LSU and won the Heisman Trophy and a national championship in 2019. Ward, a four-time Pro Bowler, was the No. 4 pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
In 2015, the U.S. women’s national soccer team also made headlines, winning the Women’s World Cup with a 5-2 victory over Japan. Carli Lloyd’s hat trick in the final cemented her status as a soccer legend.
Meanwhile, the cultural zeitgeist of 2015 included the box office success of “American Sniper,” which starred Bradley Cooper as Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. The film dominated theaters for four consecutive weekends.
Ohio State’s latest triumph not only marks a return to glory but also serves as a reminder of how much has changed in the decade since their last championship. The Buckeyes’ journey to the top has been a testament to perseverance and excellence in college football.
