Oilers Trade Cody Ceci to Sharks
The Edmonton Oilers made some big changes recently by trading defenseman Cody Ceci and a 2025 third-round draft pick to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Ty Emberson.
Ceci, who is 30 years old, played a solid season with the Oilers, managing five goals and 20 assists over 79 games. In the playoffs, he added two goals and three assists in 24 games.
On the other hand, 24-year-old Emberson had a goal and nine assists in the 30 games he played for the Sharks last season. This move seems to be part of the Oilers’ strategy after the St. Louis Blues recently made offer sheets to two of their young players, Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway.
This situation puts the Oilers in a tight spot regarding their salary cap. They need to match the Blues’ offers, which could impact the team’s future decisions, especially since they are looking to strengthen their roster with fresh talent like Vasili Podkolzin, whom they also acquired recently.
In the long run, trading Ceci allows the Oilers to make room in their budget while also bringing in a younger player in Emberson, who can contribute to the team’s defense.
