Okc Thunder Jersey No. 22 Players History

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Oklahoma City Thunder is continuing its commemorative series on jersey numbers, focusing on the rich legacy of players who have donned the franchise’s No. 22 jersey. Established during the 1967-68 season, the Thunder’s history includes players from both the Seattle SuperSonics and their Oklahoma City tenure.

As part of the ongoing series, Thunder Wire highlights the 24th entry, which has seen 20 players wear the number. Among those is former Thunder forward Jeff Green, who first wore No. 22 during his tenure with the Seattle SuperSonics. Green’s journey began after he graduated from Georgetown University, where he excelled before being selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics. Shortly thereafter, the Celtics traded Green to the Sonics.

Green made an impact in his first four seasons while wearing jersey No. 22 for the Seattle and Oklahoma City teams. He averaged 14.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game during his stint. His contributions were notable, especially in a transitional period for the franchise.

Despite the potential for a new team reintroducing the Sonics name, the memories of the past players remain etched in Thunder history. The franchise’s respect for its heritage is evident as they continue to celebrate the iconic moments represented by various jersey numbers, including No. 22.

“Wearing this jersey was an honor,” Green once stated during an interview, reflecting on his time with the team. The shared history of teams evolving over the years weaves a complex narrative that Thunder fans cherish.

The Thunder’s current campaign to honor past players via a detailed examination of jersey numbers also serves to strengthen the connection between the organization and its supporters. By doing this, they not only preserve the legacy of past players like Green but also instill pride in current and future generations of fans.
