Oklahoma Falls to Texas 4-2 in Women’s College World Series

OKLAHOMA CITY — The No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners lost to No. 6 Texas 4-2 on Saturday in the Women’s College World Series, facing a two-run deficit early in the game.
The Sooners fell behind in the first inning after two runs from Texas, but managed to tie the game in the second. However, the Longhorns regained the lead in the fifth inning and held on to win.
OU coach Patty Gasso noted the team’s offensive struggles, saying, “Our offensive mindset was not like it has been, and that made a difference. The biggest issue… is nine runners left on base, and that cannot happen against a good team like Texas.”
Texas put pressure on Oklahoma early, with back-to-back singles and a stolen base attempt leading to a run. Ailana Agbayani‘s overthrow to catcher Isabela Emerling allowed Kayden Henry to score.
Although Oklahoma rallied back, recording hits and a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 2-2, the game remained tense. Both teams’ pitchers, Sam Landry for Oklahoma and Teagan Kavan for Texas, showcased strong defense in the following innings.
In the fifth inning, Texas took advantage of a crucial moment when Henry hit a home run, putting them back in the lead. Although OU had opportunities, including a runner on third in the sixth, they couldn’t capitalize on their chances.
The Longhorns added an insurance run with a solo homer from Joley Mitchell, marking her third home run in two games at the tournament.
Despite having runners on base in the final inning, Kavan struck out two Sooners to secure the win for Texas, capturing their first victory against Oklahoma in the NCAA Tournament history.
Landry, who pitched six innings with four runs allowed, reflected on the game, saying, “They came up with some timely hits, some good hits, and that helped them a lot.”
Next, Oklahoma will face No. 16 Oregon in an elimination game, set for 6 p.m. on Sunday. Oregon narrowly defeated Ole Miss 6-5 in a nine-inning game prior.
Utility player Ella Parker expressed the team’s readiness, stating, “We’re ready to come out and compete again.” Coach Gasso emphasized the need for the team to focus on the moment rather than the outcome.
