OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Oklahoma Sooners are set to pursue a remarkable fifth consecutive Women’s College World Series (WCWS) title, as they prepare for the NCAA softball tournament starting May 11 at Devon Park. Head coach Patty Gasso and her team are looking to continue their championship dominance.

This year, the Sooners, who finished the regular season with a record of 45-7, enter the tournament as the No. 2 overall seed. Gasso’s squad recently clinched the SEC regular-season title in their first year competing in the conference.

The NCAA tournament will feature a total of 64 teams divided into 16 regional sites, with each site hosting a double-elimination format. The 16 regional champions will advance to the super regionals, culminating in eight teams competing at the WCWS in Oklahoma City.

Among regional hosts alongside Oklahoma are Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Alabama. The tournament brackets will be officially revealed at 6 p.m. CT on Sunday, May 11, during a live broadcast on ESPN2.

As the tournament approaches, various analysts express differing opinions on potential outcomes. The Sooners continue to be a popular pick among sportswriters, emphasizing their experience and ability to perform under pressure. However, teams like Texas A&M and Florida State also pose substantial threats with their strong lineups and proven track records.

Jeff Patterson, sports editor of The Oklahoman, highlights the uncertainty this season, stating that chaos has defined NCAA softball and that upsets are very possible. With teams from outside the power conferences gaining momentum, the path to the championship may be more challenging than in previous years.

As the Sooners aim for their fifth straight title, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this tournament unfolds, including which teams will emerge as surprise contenders.
