Oklahoma Women’s Gymnastics Retains Top Spot in National Rankings
Norman – The Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team has once again showcased its dominance, securing the top spot in the national rankings for the second consecutive week. Boasting an impressive average score of 197.875, the Sooners have established themselves as the team to beat.
With a score of 197.363, the University of California claimed the second position, displacing Alabama, which moved to third place with an average of 197.175. The Arkansas Razorbacks secured fourth place, closely followed by Utah in fifth with a score of 197.138.
Oklahoma’s exceptional performance extends across all four events, with the team leading the nation in the uneven bars and balance beam disciplines. The Sooners hold the second-highest average on vault and rank fourth in floor exercises.
Individually, the Sooners have been major contributors to the team’s success, reaping a total of 14 rankings across various events. Gymnasts Davis and Torrez lead the charge, obtaining rankings on all four events as well as in the all-around category. Torrez also shares a spot with Bowers.
In the all-around category, Davis shines at fourth place with an impressive average of 39.612. Torrez makes her mark at eighth place with an average of 39.563, while Bowers and Torrez secure the 12th and 17th positions with averages of 39.500 and 39.463, respectively.
When focusing on individual events, Torrez delivers an outstanding performance on vault, securing seventh place with an average score of 9.912. Meanwhile, Torrez and Bowers both demonstrate their versatility, achieving rankings on multiple events, including a shared spot at 22nd place in floor exercises with an average score of 9.900.
Oklahoma’s prowess on the uneven bars is undeniable, with four Sooners securing rankings. Davis leads the pack at fourth place with a remarkable average score of 9.938. Additionally, and Torrez are tied for eighth place with an average of 9.925. Torrez and are also tied for 22nd place, further demonstrating the team’s strength in this event.
On the balance beam, Torrez continues to impress, snagging the seventh spot with a stellar average score of 9.938. Bowers joins her at 13th place with an average of 9.912. Both Torrez and Bowers find themselves tied at 22nd place in floor exercises, showcasing their consistent performance across multiple events.
In the upcoming week, the Sooners will travel to Denver, Colorado, for an exhilarating quad meet against Denver, UCLA, and Stanford at the esteemed Magness Arena. Looking ahead, Oklahoma’s home season will commence on January 26th, with a thrilling face-off against Denver inside the Lloyd Noble Center.
