Oliver Skipp Close To Joining Leicester

In an exciting development in the football world, Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp is undergoing a medical exam today for a transfer to Leicester City worth over £20 million.

If everything goes smoothly, this move could be finalized within the next 24 hours, marking the end of Skipp’s 16-year association with Tottenham. The 23-year-old joined Spurs’ academy when he was just six years old, but his time on the first team has been quite limited.

Skipp had a successful loan spell at Norwich during the 2020-21 season, where he flourished in the Championship, but his appearances for Spurs have only totaled 40 league starts and 37 off the bench.

Leicester, who are keen to boost their squad after promotion to the Premier League, see Skipp as a valuable addition and are set to make him their sixth signing of the summer. Interestingly, Tottenham will face Leicester in their opening game of the Premier League season tomorrow.

Harry Winks is expected to feature against his former club, while Skipp’s transfer won’t be completed in time for him to play. Leicester’s manager, Steve Cooper, expressed the challenges of the slow transfer market this season but remains focused on the upcoming match.

In recent weeks, Leicester added Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton on loan, alongside several other signings, including Abdul Fatawu, Caleb Okoli, Michael Golding, and Bobby Decordova-Reid.

Skipp had 24 appearances for Spurs last season, mainly coming off the bench under manager Ange Postecoglou. His deal with Tottenham runs through 2027, and he has made a total of 106 appearances since breaking into the first team in 2018.

As Tottenham and Leicester prepare to clash, Skipp’s move would reunite him with fellow Spurs academy graduate in Leicester’s midfield.
