Wiaa Girls State Basketball Tournament Action

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The 2025 WIAA Girls State Basketball Tournament kicked off this week at the Resch Center with high expectations. Over three days, 15 games will determine the champions in Wisconsin‘s high school basketball, culminating in the crowning of five teams on championship Saturday, March 15.

Oostburg made headlines on Thursday, overcoming a late surge by Laconia to secure a spot in the D3 State Championship. Leading 29-19 at halftime, fueled by six three-pointers, Oostburg faced a determined challenge from Laconia. The Lady Dutch, however, executed a decisive 10-0 run in the final minutes, sealing a 20-point performance by Kinsley Ketterhagen and earning a place in the title game.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game,” Ketterhagen said. “We just kept pushing ourselves and stayed focused through the adversity.”

From day one, the WIAA State Basketball Tournament has been an event marked by excitement, passion, and the promise of spectacular plays. The games are broadcast across the state on the WIAA network, where a dedicated crew of 35 professionals work tirelessly to provide seamless coverage of the tournament. Nick Tabbert from the broadcasting team highlighted the extensive preparation involved. “It’s really helpful for me to absorb as much information beforehand, so when the game is live, I can easily refer to facts or storylines,” he said.

As the women’s tournament progresses, the WIAA is ensuring coverage is accessible for fans statewide, broadcasting games and providing streaming options via the WIAA Sports Live app and partner networks. Melissa Gehring, an assistant director with the WIAA, acknowledged the teamwork behind the scenes, stating, “So many people tune into this, they don’t have any participants out there. This is what they do in March.”

Championship Saturday will see the best teams in Wisconsin battle for state titles. Fans eager to catch the action can do so at their local WIAA network stations or stream online.

As the tournament unfolds, anticipation builds among teams and fans alike as they revel in the thrill of high school basketball.
